Brockett Tamny & Co. principals’ backgrounds were gained at major, international merchant and investment banks.
  • Brockett Tamny & Co.’s principals have more than 130 years of combined experience in the fields of investment and merchant banking. During that time, they have developed expertise in a wide spectrum of financial disciplines including mergers and acquisitions, capital formation, corporate financial consulting, and distribution of securities, both private and public.

Peter D. Tamny
Peter D. Tamny has spent his entire business career in the investment banking field in Los Angeles. He initially joined Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. in 1973. From 1981 to 1986, he managed the Los Angeles investment banking office of Blyth Eastman-Paine Webber and, from 1986 to 1990 held the same position with Lehman Brothers. He has served as a corporate director on the Boards of Cherokee Group, SNAP Communications and Phillips Plywood. Mr. Tamny currently serves on the Board of Directors of the USS Pasadena Foundation and a past Director of Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles and Mayfield Senior School (also President.) Mr. Tamny is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business Administration (HBS). He currently is a Trustee of the HBS Association of Southern California’s Scholarship Committee. He served as a submariner in the Navy’s Nuclear Powered Fleet Ballistic Missile force and has completed 22 years of Active and Reserve Naval service, retiring in 1989 as a Commander.

Peter C. Brockett
Peter C. Brockett began his career in investment banking with Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. He subsequently managed the West Coast merger and acquisition activity for Security Pacific Bank, before becoming Vice President and Treasurer of Pacific Enterprises, a $7 billion, diversified holding company. Prior to starting Brockett Tamny & Co., Mr. Brockett managed the West Coast Corporate Group and West Coast Energy Merchant Bank for Bankers Trust Company. Mr. Brockett currently serves on the Board of Foundation Energy Company, a Dallas, TX based institutional money management firm. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Duke University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Michael K. O’Connell
Michael O’Connell has more than 40 years of experience in the management and administration of companies to which he provided diversified financial services and domestic and international investment banking advice. Prior to joining Brockett Tamny & Co. in 2011, he was a Managing Director at Janas Associates. In 1999, Michael led an investment group that acquired the largest senior demographic monthly newspaper in the West. Under his management, sales increased from a loss to significant earnings with EBITDA margins of 20%. He successfully sold the company to a private equity firm. Earlier, Michael was Deputy Managing Director responsible for the international securities business for Chemical Bank International. He managed offices in London and Hong Kong until 1984, with responsibilities including the management of the trading and underwriting activities of the Bank in Eurobond Securities. On leaving Chemical Bank, he invested in and was manager of a financial consulting software business. Michael was a Founder and Managing Director of Angeles Capital Group, a middle-market investment banking firm. In Los Angeles, Michael has practiced investment banking and corporate finance consulting for middle-market companies. Michael began his career in New York at Chase Manhattan Bank, then Blyth Eastman Paine Webber and subsequently, William D. Witter, Inc. (later acquired by Drexel Burnham). Michael is a graduate of Yale University and is currently on the board of several private companies. In 2012 he and his colleague, Chris Ball, represented Western Exterminators in its sale of the pest control service and chemical distribution business, Target Specialty Products, to Rentokil Initial, a large public UK service company. This sale transaction for over $100 million was one of the largest in the pest control services industry during the last five years.
